When do you need a ski pass?

You will need a ski pass to use the lifts in any resort although there are sometimes exceptions if you are a very young, old or a complete beginner. It is an offence to try and ski without a lift pass.

In the majority of resorts now lift passes are "hands free" and can be left zipped in your pocket. There are readers at the bottom of each lift which detect your pass as you walk close.

Cheap Lift Pass Prices

Lift passes prices vary a lot from resort to resort - smaller resorts will always have much cheaper lift pass prices than the large resorts like Val d'Isere and the Three Valleys in France. Bulgaria will also be cheaper than France or Austria for example
The best time for cheap lift passes is low season. This is usually from the beginning of the season to the week prior to Christmas, the first 2-3 weeks in January and then the final weeks of the season in April.
In the majority of resorts cheap lift pass prices are offered for children and seniors. The age categories vary from resort to resort but children up to at least 11 or 12 are generally offered cheap prices.

An alternative option for families in certain resorts is to book a Family pass. These are usually applicable for two parents and from two to four children. Children can usually be up to 17 years to qualify for a cheap family pass. You still all have seperate lift passes and do not need to ski together - there is just a cheap package price. Please not proof of family/ages are required in resort.

Special offers will be in place during the season - keep your eye out for promotions; they will be displayed on our site as and when they arise so you won't miss out on the option to buy a cheap ski pass.

Ski Pass Coverage & Duration

In many resorts you will have the choice of a local ski pass or an area one. Local lift passes cover the resort itself where as area passes include the adjoining (usually lift-linked) resorts. For example in La Plagne you can buy a local La Plagne ski pass for just the La Plagne domain or else an area lift pass for the Paradiski area which includes Les Arcs. 6 day lift passes in resorts such as Alpe D'Huez and Les Deux Alpes often include a day in a nearby station for a change of scenery! In Austria area lift passes cover several ski domains - which aren't necessarily lift linked so you will require a car or the local bus service!

The standard lift pass is a 6-day pass from Sunday to Friday. Any duration is possible however and you can select the start date for your pass. If you are arriving Saturday morning you can always by a half-day pass in resort.

Extra Insurance

You can also book with us Assur'neige insurance alonside your lift passes - this is insurance for incidents and accidents on the slopes and is equivalent to the insurance that can be bought at the lift pass office alongside your lift pass known as 'Carré Neige'. It costs 2.5€ per person a day and covers rescue from the slopes if you get lost, not just if you have an accident and is definately recommended if you intend to ski off-piste. Assur'neige will also reimburse you if you cannot use your ski passes for more than three days due to accident or bad weather. This can be purchased through our booking engine under Insurance.
If you need to book your full travel insurance we work with Columbus Direct and can offer you 5% off their prices for ski insurance
