Zell am Ziller is a small town situated in the centre of the Zillertal valley. It belongs to the Zillertal Arena, one of the largest skiing areas in Austria. Zillertal Arena is one of the largest and most modern skiing areas in Austria. The name 'Ziller' comes from the Ziller River which, since Roman times, has acted as a natural boundary between provinces and countries. The dioceses of Brixen and Salzburg used it as a natural boundary and the red and green church towers still reflect this historic period in the Ziller Valley.

Zell am Ziller - Ski

Zell am Ziller has 47 pistes to choose from offering something for every level of skier. Intermediate skiers are most catered because of about 112 kms of runs to enjoy. For snowboarders there are 2 snow parks. Zell am Ziller is especially good for beginners. The difference to many other resorts is that the beginner slopes are always good covered with snow because of the high altitude. This height is good for excellent skiing conditions and beautiful views. Wildspitz is at 3774m and the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner 3797m reaches into Tyrol. Zillertal Arena is one of the largest and most modern skiing areas in Austria with its 163 top quality kilometres of slopes with all degrees of difficulty connected to the largest and most modern skiing areas in Austria. In Zell am Ziller snowboarders will find 2 perfectly equipped snow parks and great off-piste runs.

Zell Am Ziller - Town

Zell am Ziller is a traditional market town. Although it is not as lively as its neighbour Mayrhofen, it still has a lot of restaurants to temp you. There are several bars and a nightclub which offer some après ski entertainment. Après ski lovers will be delighted to know the village is home to Austria's oldest private brewery.

Activities

For some fun off the slopes there are lots of activities to keep you busy. There is the amusement park which has ice-skating, ice-curling and an indoor pool. There is also a 7km toboggan run just outside the town centre which is floodlit so it can be used at night-time. There are a lot of things to do like Nordic-walking, climbing, mountainbiking or paragliding.

Children

Zell am Ziller is a real kids paradise. Ski and snowboard schools, a 7km long toboggan run in Hainzenberg, snow and fun arena such as Zeller Funpark with iceskatingrink, tennis sportshall and bowling alley are offering a huge retreat (free time) programm.
