For those wanting to try something different, there is the possibility to experience the thrills of paragliding or hot air ballooning, or to ride in a horse drawn sleigh. With its extensive network of cross country ski trails, St Johann in Tirol is also an excellent resort for those who enjoy cross county skiing.

St Johann - Ski

The Ski area for St Johann in Tirol offers 66km of pistes, of all difficulties. A snow cannon system means that if there is insufficient snow, 45km of the St Johann in Tirol ski area can be covered in snow. Good beginners’ slopes can be found around Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf, areas, whilst the Kitzbühler Horn has pistes suitable for those wanting more of a challenge. A lift pass can also be obtained for the wider Schneewinkel area, which offers 170km of pistes.

St Johann - Town

St Johann in Tirol is situated on a very low altitude of only 670m. It is the commercial centre of its region, and with over 8000 inhabitants, is larger than most other resorts in the region. It is situated in the picturesque Leukental Valley.

Activities

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the Ruppenhang piste is floodlighted from 7pm to 9pm, for those who wish to try night-time skiing. There is also plenty do in St Johann in Tirol aside from skiing, from horse drawn sleigh rides to tandem paragliding from 1700m in the air. For those wishing to view the breathtaking mountain scenery from the air in a more relaxed fashion, there is the possibility of hot air ballooning, offering the opportunity to take in the breathtaking views, whist drifting through the sky. It is also possible to go tobogganing on a 2.5km run starting at the top of the Hochfeld lift II. For those wishing to go ice skating, there is an Ice rink in town. The St Johann in Tirol area also has an extensive network of cross country ski routes, with 275km of trails.

There are three ski schools in St Johann in Tirol, all of which offer ski lessons for young children in a fun children’s area.
