Kitzbühel - Ski Resort Guide

A lot of investment has gone into Kitzbühel ski resort over the last few years. Old ski lift systems have been replaced and queuing is no longer an issue. On top of this a man-made lake was built to help make artificial snow. The snow system is now ultramodern - snow cannons cover a large area of the domain and the snow is guaranteed for the whole season from December till April.

Kitzbühel - Ski

Kitzbühel's ski area is massive and offers something for every kind of skier - from beginner's slopes to the most difficult off-piste powder. Experienced skiers often like to attempt the famous Streif run on the Hahnemkamm - races have been held on it every January since the 30's, attracting huge crowds as one of Austria's biggest sporting events.  There is also a special ski safari route which is very popular and of course the Snow Park, Boardercross, Funpark and Halfpipe.

Kitzbühel - Town

Kitzbühel has hotels for all budgets - besides the really expensive ones there is also a wide range of cheap hotels. The resort has some great après-ski and the nightlife in Kitzbühel is far bigger than most of the other Austrian ski resorts with a choice of more than 40 bars, the recently opened casino and even 4 nightclubs... For shopaholics there are also plenty of shops in the centre and many nice restaurants.

Activities

The major attraction in Kitzbühel is the Aquarena - a new spa and indoor pool with adventure slides, sauna, hamman, massages, kneipp baths, tanning rooms, nudist decks, reflexology, mud packs, Turkish baths, medical baths and many other spa treatments. This is only one of several spa and beauty centres in the resort.  For those wishing to be more active there is a long list of outdoor activities as well : snowshoeing, tobogganing, Nordic walking, sleigh rides, snowmobiles, ballooning or paragliding. Otherwise if the weather is bad there is also an indoor ice rink, curling and climbing wall in the Sports Hall and a cinema, bowling alley and 3 museums. 

Children

Kitzbühel is a good choice for families thanks to its areas of wide easy slopes. Children aged three and up can join special ski kindergartens run by the ski schools.
